PEGGY FOR YOU

Synopsis:

"Peggy for you" is a comic drama  about the life of the famous play agent, Peggy Ramsay, who helped transform post-war British drama.

Alan Plater's play is a witty and poignant portrait of Margaret 'Peggy' Ramsay, the larger-than-life play agent who nurtured several generations of British playwrights (John Arden, Alan Ayckbourn, Robert Bolt, Edward Bond, David Hare, Caryl Churchill, David Hare, Christopher Hampton, Joe Orton, and others) from the late 1950s to the early 1980s.

Peggy was one of the most influential behind-the-scenes figures in post-war British theatre. Focusing on one fateful day of her life, when old clients are exiting and new ones are entering,

Plater's play is a meditation on the creative spirit.

PHIL HAWKINS

Phil moved to Burgess Hill last may and the first thing he did was find a theatre group to join. His debut with the production "A Streetcar named desire". Phil has made a point to join theatre groups in every part of the country he has lived in (Essex, Linconshire and Worcestershire) and has performed in plays, musicals, showcases and even (when he was a child) Pantomimes. He thinks himself very fortunate to also work in a drama related field (albeit behind the scenes) in his professional life as well, as a production coordinator for BBC Radio Drama

MALCOM STEPHENS

Malcom's interest in dram began at university as an antidote to engineering, where he was involved in performing and writing for the stage and for student television. Productions included "After the Rain", "Zoo Story", "American Hurrah!", "Oldenberg" and "The Real Inspector Hound". With Burgess Hill Theatre Club, Malcom appeared as the mayor in "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", in "An Evening with Shakespeare" and a cameo role as a policeman in "After Magritte".

ALICIA LANE

Alicia is thrilled to be back performing on stage with Burgess Hill Theatre Club. She was a member of the Junior workshop back in the early 1990's and performed in many shows with them. Her last apperance at this theatre, during her teenage years was as Aunt Sponge in "James and the Giant Peach". She is looking forward to playing a slightly more glamorous role this time! Since she was last with the club Alicia has taken priciple roles regulary in productions with various companies at The Hawth and Chequer Mead theatres. This Weeks performances are dedicated to the man who inspired her love of the stage and who inspired her return to the club, Rick Peckham. Much loved by all who knew him he will never be forgotten.

ANDY SQUIRES

Andy would like to thank Des for giving him the chance to play Simon, the up-and-coming young writer in the play, as frankly it's the first time in his life that he's been an up-and-coming anything. Hw would also like to thank Alan Plater for writing a script that has constantly had him craking up in rehersals. Fingers crossed the audiences react in the same way. Enjoy the show!!

CHERRY WOODHOUSE

Cherry joined BHTC in 2004 and has appeared in many productions over the years. She has also written and directed several of her own plays. Peggy for You is her biggest role to date, 83 pages of wonderfully written and amusing dialogue to learn! Hopefully she will remember all the right words in the right order! Enjoy!
