A TASTE OF HONEY

Synopsis

Set in working class Salford, the play is about the adolescent Jo and her relationships with those about her. Her irresponsible, roving mother Helen and her mum's newly acquired drunken husband, her black sailor boyfriend who leaves her pregnant and Geoffrey the homosexual art student who moves in to help with the baby.

It is also about Jo's unshakeable optimism throughout her trials.

BHTC NOTES: Robert Newton (Director) suggested that the cast (and some other club members), went on a drama weekend at Highleigh Manor where they lived, ate and slept drama in preparation for the rehearsals and eventual production. It was remembered as an amazing experience in closely examining all the relationships and characters of the play.

The production was also entered in the 1962 Sussex Full Length Drama Festival and was judged 2nd in it's class (see Press Reviews Below)
