Synopsis:

In a war between Bulgaria and Serbia, an enemy Serbian soldier climbs a drainpipe to a young Bulgarian woman’s bedroom for shelter and shatters her every romantic notion about love and valor. A jealous lover, a bumbling military father, and a domineering and social-climbing mother round out a perfectly hilarious and charmingly ludicrous look at life in the old world of Eastern Europe.

Arms and the Man is a burlesque of Victorian attitudes to heroism, war and empire. In the contrast between Bluntschli, the mercenary soldier, and the brave leader, Sergius, the true nature of valour is revealed. One of Bernard Shaw’s most glittering comedies.
