GODSPELL

Junior Workshop Production

Synopsis:

The structure of the musical is that of a series of parables, taken primarily from the Gospel of Matthew. These are then interspersed with a variety of modern music set primarily to lyrics from traditional hymns, with the passion of Christ treated briefly near the end of performance.

BHTC NOTES: This show was repeated with a renewed cast in October 1987 in the small Poynings church and then yet again in 1988 at a church in Woking.

PLAYWRIGHTS: John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz. Tebelak originally created Godspell at the age of 22 as his masters thesis project. The music was by written by Stephen Schwartz with some lyrics being original, whilst others are taken from either the Bible or traditional hymns in the 1940 Episcopal Hymnal.
