VANITY FAIR

Synopsis:

 

Becky Sharp, the orphaned daughter of a painter and a singer, leaves a home for girls to be a governess, armed with pluck, a keen wit, good looks, fluent French, and an eye for social advancement even though society tries its best to keep her from climbing!

 

No aristocrat she, nor bourgeois, just spirited, intelligent, and irrepressible.

PLAYWRIGHT:   William Makepeace Thackeray wrote Vanity Fair which first appeared in serialised installments beginning in January 1847 that satirised society in early 19th-century England. This production was adapted & developed by club workshop leader Sophie Pocknell.
